Mature Age Podiatry
One of the biggest frustrations as you get older is the increasing lack of flexibility, and the increasing difficulty in looking after your feet in particular. Did you know Arthritis can affect your feet?
If you’re experiencing toe pain and unsure if it is related to Arthritis consult our Podiatrists to investigate the cause of the pain as we offer a number of Advanced treatment options for Arthritis affecting the feet.
Sports injuries to the foot and ankle are exceedingly common in sports.
We understand that a sports specific approach is needed to assessing, treating and preventing injury.
Some of the treatments for Sports Podiatry related concerns at our clinic include:
At Ryan James Podiatry we have a special interest in Children’s Podiatry.
Children’s feet are different in many ways to adults as they have unique developmental milestones and patterns.
The following can be reasons why you may want to bring your child to a podiatrist:
- recurring pain
- frequent tripping
- tiring easily
- knocked knees
- uneven shoe wear
- flat feet
- walking or standing differently
- skin rashes
- ingrown nails
- intoeing (pigeon toes)
- juvenile hallux abducto valgus (bunion deformity)
Diabetes is one of the fastest growing diseases in Australia and is rapidly reaching epedemic proportions.
Did you know that 60-70% of those with diabetes will develop peripheral neuropathy, or lose sensation in their feet.
Diabetic foot screening
Ryan James Podiatry has devised an evidence based screening tool to assess your risk of diabetic foot complications comprised of vascular assessment, neurological assessment and recording of deformity and pressure areas.
It may be beneficial for the podiatrist to test for areas of high pressure with our Tekscan Mat to prevent complications and provide patients with a strong understanding of potential problem areas.
If you know of a family member or friend who has Diabetes, encourage them to see a Podiatrist regularly to promote optimum foot health.
Cara is our resident specialist diabetic podiatrist, so if you are diabetic, or pre-diabetic, book an appointment to see her right away.
Fungal Nail Treatment
Fungal nails are a common concern for many patients and they are often a difficult nail condition to treat.
Some symptoms may include discolouration, thickening, brittleness and debris under the nails.
There are a range of treatments available with varying success and side effects. These may include topical therapies or oral medications.
Laser therapy is a recent technology however this can be expensive. At Ryan James Podiatry we offer Photodynamic Therapy as an alternative.
What is PACT nail fungal therapy?
PACT stands for Photodynamic Antimicrobial Chemotherapy. This innovatve technology effectively treats/kills fungi cells.
A chemical dye is placed on the nail and allowed to ‘soak in’ to the fungal tissue. High intensity light is then used to activate a chemical reaction.
There are no reported side effects or contraindications for this treatment. The process will need to be repeated for multiple appointments (varying on individual needs).
Do you have chronic pain in the feet or lower limbs? You may benefit from Shockwave Treatment.
At Ryan James Podiatry we are proud to be able to provide our patients wih this innovative technology.
Shockwave therapy promotes neovascularisation which promotes new circulation to the damaged tendon or fascia.
During shockwave therapy a high intensity sound wave interacts with the tissues of the body, which promotes healing of the area.
Benefits of Shockwave therapy:
- No anaesthesia
- No medication
- High success rate
Ryan is our resident specialist in shockwave treatment so make an appointment to see him today.
Orthotic therapy is used to treat biomechanical foot dysfunction.
Foot dysfunction is when the foot is not moving as it should. This can place extra stress to bone, ligament and muscles of the foot.
Our Podiatrists may recommend some form of orthotics determined on a patients individual needs this may include a prefabricated device, a heat molded prefabricated device or prescription orthotics.
Our highly skilled laboratory technicians take special care in fabricating prescription orthotics which meet the highest level of standards. They are built to meet your individual biomechanical and lifestyle needs.
We use modern techniques with casting, with a 3D scanner as opposed to an older method of casting. This 3D digital scan of your feet is more accurate and provides our patients with high quality orthotics.
We use state of the art CADCAM technology to mill your orthotic. This method is accurate to 1/20mm. This software eliminates human error for a superior orthotic every time.
Ryan James is the best I have been to. He is always friendly and professional and does a great job! Pity about his choice of NRL team though, otherwise I would have given him a six-star rating!
